washer will not spin

took the boot off the front of the drum on our front load 417 series kenmore washer and having a hard time getting the spring to go back around the lip on the drum side. everything I have found on this subject says it has a clamp. well this one has a large spring. any suggestions on how to put the spring back on?

did you find any luck solving your problem. my washer 417.29042991 is also experiencing the same problem and I can't seem to find the solution/cause or a service manual online...
