Why does my shower heater trip when I turn the shower on?

I have a gainsborough electric shower. When I pull the shower heater cord the light comes on to indicate that the shower heater is on. However when I switch the shower on it "cuts out" and the light goes off and the water never gets hot. The main fuse in the box downstairs does not trip so I am a bit confused as to what could be wrong.

poss problem is a bad connection inside the pull switch probably on the neutral so when the shower is off the power light is ok on the switch but as soon as a load is called for by switching on the shower you are losing the electric supply at the bad connection at the switch,or maybe at the terminal block inside the shower unit, BEWARE TURN OFF THE ELECTRIC SUPPLY AT THE FUSEBOARD OR BETTER STILL GET AN ELECTRICIAN IN FOR SAFTEY ONLY
