I have purchased a Sears Free Spirit model 801 recumbent bike and the resistance adjustment has just stopped working. I have changed the batteries in the control box, but to no avail. Any ideas as to what to do next to fix this problem?

Same problem with 703 as well. Had it for about 2 years and resistance is no longer working.

I have a 703 with a similiar prob - opened it up - the CHEAP plastic gears are stripped on one of the plastic cogs that control the load/resistacne - garbage! - this high load stuff should be made of brass or some other hard METAL alloy. Most likely you have same prob. Now I am trying to find parts/service - I am off warranty
