Why does it show battery level when i hook my iPod up to the computer?

Well, for christmas, i got a new iPod nano. but when i plug it into the computer via the USB cord, it just shows the battery level. And i just want to know two things...

1) What is the problem?

2)How can i fix it?

I dont think there is a problem at all, I take it your ipod is still syncing with itunes. I checked and if i connect my ipod to my pc after it has synced it goes to the charging status screen as well.

what computer are you trying to connect to? new ipods will not work with old mac or windows software.
