how do I get my hoover carpet cleaner brushes to spin

I am having the same problem and went to a 'Pay for the solution' kind of website which is where the following information comes from.

Evidently, a known problem with Hoover carpet cleaners is the brush-spin speed setting switch. Replacing this item will fix the problem.

In my case, the brushes would turn but could be stopped with the slightest of pressure. The problem was the same with either fast or slow setting selected, however, with the 'off' position selected the brushes would stop turning, as they should.

A replacement switch assembly is actively being sought as we speak and I'll report back later with the outcome.

I am having the same problem with my Hoover Steam Cleaner. On the housing there is a warning that repairs requiring dismantling the cleaner should be done by authorized technician. But they are hard to find. The search I did on the Hoover website list a few. I live in a fairly large metro area and the closest Hoover repair is 35 miles away. I'm hoping that a local vacuum repair shop can fix it. I am really "steamed" that this machine broke down so quickly and is so difficult to have serviced. I'll never buy another Hoover.
