Whatever cycle i put the machine on, after only a couple of minutes the cycle light on the top goes to pre rinse and just keeps beeping. Can anybody help?

Try running the machine on a lower temperature cycle - if it works ok then the thermostat is faulty.

I had a similar problem a few months ago and cleared it by straightening a kink in the cold water supply pipe.
However the problem has returned and I suspect that there may be grit in the inlet filter (we had problems in my neighbourhood when the local water company replaced the pipes in the street and this caused electic showers and water softeners to cease working).
I will let you know if I make any progress later this week.
