Alarm goes off even when the alarm is not set?

I have a Citadel XR2 alarm system in the house but the internal alarm sounded even when the alarm was not set. When i checked what zone was affected, it displayed "Tamper". I reset it and everything is OK now but I do not know why this happend or wether it will happen again.
Please can anyone advise.

Thank you Jim

Even though your alarm is not swiched on a anti tamper circuit will always be on, its function is to warn you if somebody is trying to disconnect part of your system (taking cover off item) while it is disarmed eg usually only triggering a internal bell.
I am not familar with panel type you mentioned but depending on the age of the panel it will usually indicate the area the tamper was created in eg T1 = tamper circuit 1 ref to your zone listing to identify area description. it could also be a general tamper bell covers. The best advice i can give is to check all junction box covers are secure and screws are tight all detector and bell covers are secure look for possible damage to cables if visible. its posssible this fault might not reocure for a long time a good way to pinpoint fault is to note where people are in the house when activation happens eg vibration retriggers the fault. If all above fails you need to a technichian. good luck

there are tamper switches on most of the pirs/bell boxes/main control unit.it could be any of them setting the alarm off or a loose wire
