Why does the Detergent Dispenser not open on Indesit Dishwasher?

Indesit IDL 500 - About one in four washes the flap fails to open during the wash cycle leaving the detergent stuck in the dispenser at the end of the programme - how can I fix this problem?

I have this problem, and we use the tablets with the red ball - is this a problem? Should we use a different tablet?
