just tried to start my diesel van waited for heater pliug lights to go off tried to turn engine over no response started fine earlier today

the main problem with starting on diesels is the glowplugs not working. On a warm day they may start okay but when the temp drops the diesel will not ignite without the heating effect of the plugs, thats why when starting up you should wait for the heater icon to go off before turning the key any further.
