i have a candy slimline dishwasher, some months ago i experienced a similiar problem, it would not start at all. It made a grinding noice and did nothing. We pulled it about and gave up. After leaving it off for few months i tried it out today to see what would happen and after a long wait and some more grinding noices it started to work. It's currently in mid cycle so i my fingers are crossed that the problem is fixed. I'm told that it may be the motor on it's way out. Sorry i can not at present be any more help.
