how to start a suffolk punch 35s ?

Bought second hand suffolk punch 35s. had it serviced used once last summer, taken out of shed now to cut grass and I can not get it to start. Checked spark plug ok petrol flow ok, can anyone tell me the start up procedure also what type of petrol eg. 2 stroke or unleaded. Does anyone know where I can get a manuel

I had this problem, as simple as it sounds, if it has fuel & a spark, close down the spark plug gap, if you closed it too much it will missfire, too open & it will not start!

you need to use the old style 4 star leaded petrol. which you can get a equivilent from some stations

Hang on - my mistake I think...is this the black painted engine? If so, no tickler button on the carb and the air filter is on the side of the carb, not below it. Everything else is relevant. Sorry!!

Ye gods thats an old one.....it is a four stroke side valve engine and it needs neat petrol with no oil. Use fresh petrol, tap on, depress the 'tickler' button on the top of the carburettor until fuel flows out, close choke flap just above the air filter and pull the recoil starter. Open choke immediately - in fact you may not need to use it at all.
