Fitting Egress hinges to UPVC windows?

The building inspector has asked us to switch our normal friction hinges for emergency egress hinges on our side hung UPVC windows. I've measured them and the hinges are 12 inches long.

Everyone tells me they are easy to fit, but I'm not sure how to go about it; will I need to take the window out completely? If I do have to take it out, how do I not drop it down through the conservatory roof?

I'd be grateful for any words of wisdom.

Replaced them today. Surprised how easy it was.

I'd take the old hinges off and take them with you to the hardware shop to make sure you get the right replacements.

How did you get on Danny?
I was quoted 220 notes to have mine replaced but I think I'll do it myself!

you will need to take the sash out but not full window, you need to take the 3 or 4 screws out of the hinge that is fixed to the window, take the bottom screws out first but leave centre screw in then take top screws out and again leave center screw in,if its a big sash get someone to hold sash so it dosnt drop then take last 2 screws out starting with bottom, tilt sash so you can get it through window replace with egress then put it back in the way you took it out starting with top screws, hope this helps
