How do I fix my Zanussi washine machine FLS1183w??

Basically within the last two weeks, my washing machine makes terrible banging and grinding noises when completeing the spinning part of the cycle. It seems like the wash drum is banging on the outer casing (grinding) when in the spin cycle, everything else all seems to be ok?? Is this a bearing done, or something more serious?? What are the likely costs, and is it worth repairing, or calling it a day??

Andy, having done the job, my advice is DONT. It's a b**** of a job to do and most likely the drum shaft will have wear on it where it meets the shaft/bearing seal. Even when you fit the new shaft/bearing seal, a slight weep of water will still occur into the bearing set. Most likely, as in my case, it will last a month or two and let go again. It's not worth while buying a new drum shaft assembly, as it is expensive. In my opinion, its cheaper and will cause less heartache to go buy a new washing machine.

Replacing the bearing components inside one of these machines is a task even experienced zanussi engineers wish to avoid. Done properly by yourself the parts you will need are a rear drum, (possibly a drum front if it's got that bad), inner drum, a drum seal, and I always replace the element. additionally you may want to include a couple of band-aids.

Not replacing all components will probably result in the same problem in a couple of months time.

retail parts cost at well over £100, I'd take a trip to Comet.

Hi Andy

I am also looking for an answer for the same problem that my Zanussi machine is suffering with.

Have you got any luck with this one yet?

I am sick and tired of visiting Launderette :-(

Cheers!

Michael
