Simpson washing machine doesn't agitate-rotates 1 direction only?

During "wash" cycle, drum will rotate in 1 direction, then stop, then continue rotating in same direction ie won't reverse direction resulting in clothes wrapping around the agitator.

What could I check or do? Thanks

I MUST STRESS DO NOT DO ANY OF THIS UNLESS YOU ARE COMFORTABLE PLAYING WITH LIVE ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS OR GET A FRIEND OR ELECTRICIAN TO HELP
I had the same problem and although I am not a repairer I found that by removing wrapping the timer and that solid state unit in glad wrap then reinstalling them insulating from steam fixed the problem.
Also a couple of cable ties around the loose glad wrap and cables seems to seal it off ok
A quick way to test if this is the problem is to fill the machine and run the wash cycle (no clothes)open the top of the console carefully and lay it back on the top of the machine on a towel or something not touching anything inside as it will be active and dry the timer and other units inside using a hair dryer while in the washing cycle as you are drying it if this is the problem it should return to a proper wash cycle
As I like to do a hot wash I found that one of the tabs that hold down the lower section of the console had broken leaving a gap and allowing steam to come up from the back of the lid and into the control panel
