hi,canon ixus 500 just stopped working completely,changed the battery but still dead,camera is in mint condition but all of a sudden would not turn on,i do have a spare 500 with ccd fault but didnt want to start stripping down and swapping bits willy nilly,thanks

you could check the very small switch activated by the battery cover when closed. This sits to the side of the battery under the cover plate - it is very small and spring activated.
