How to seal around double glazed windows?

I have had renovation work carried out in my living room and the plasterboards around my windows replaced. There is now a half inch gap around the facial. What is the best method to seal around the gaps. Should I use expanding foam then trim and paint over.

In some cases expanding foam is the correct fix for your problem. but if you do use expanding form be sure you use the low to minimum expanding type so it won't over expand and jam your windows so they won't open. a better fix for your problem is to take sone fiberglass insulation and push some into the gap until it is just slightly full then fill the remaining area with a good latex caulk. and then you can paint the area with the color of your choice.
