Richard L, you posted an answer in April, but i wonder how you were able to squeeze the spring in as the entire area is such a small/tight space. If i place the seal/gasket in drum, I can't see/access the area where the spring goes. does the front panel (entire front of machine) need to be removed?

The front panel must be removed. The front panel is the entire front of the machine that holds the door. There are two screws on the bottom holding the panel in place, but you must remove the control panel and the drainage panels to access the screws.
