JVC gr-dv3 Error E03. Can I unlock camera?

My camera has suddenly locked up with the above error. I can't remove the tape as the mechanism has locked. Any ideas? Is there a manual lever to open the tape holder? I've pressed reset, with no result.

1. detach the power (adapter and/or the battery).
2. wait approx. 1 minute. attach the battery
3. Open the lever by hand.
4. get tape out.

don't use other brand tapes with this camera, because that's causing a lot of problems.
