Mountfield SP470 Engine "hunting"?

This lawn mower starts no problem, but does not run evenly, it "hunts" by accelerating and decelerating, giving very uneven running of the engine. Is there some way that this can be cured. I cannot see any way to alter the petrol/air mix at all. Thank you.

What engine is fitted? The symptoms indicate a lean mixture, but the cause will be different depending on enine model.
