Further to my original question, I have checked the water supply, plastic filter - all OK.

As the machine is being switched on, when listening at the rear of the machine a soft 'clunk' is heard, followed by an electrical 'buzz'. Hope this helps with the solution!

just had same problem found out it was the circulation motor .it took 15 mins to replace ,dishwasher better then new.
