Is it poss to fix this problem myself?

I have a cambridge audio a1 intergrated amplifier. For some reason one of the speakers suddenly bursts into a loud scratchy noise when I am listening to it. Sounds like the thing is gonna explode! If I turn it off and come back to it later it'll work. Then suddenly it happens again. Sometimes if I turn my cd player on and off and mess around with the ballance it'll start working again. Help please!

You say altering the balance sometimes solves it. Have you tried replacing the glass fuses inside amp?
That may solve it, worth a try, you can buy identical fuses from a car accesory shop. Hope this helps.
