how can i fix?

when i turn hot water on the boiler is not igniting to heat the water when i turn the heating on the gas ignites any ideas why

You should have stated the make and model of boiler before some one can can think............ but it seems a flow switch or hot water sensor.

if your heating is working fine and you`ve got a combi boiler then its probably either a hot water micro switch or hot water diaphragm.............
