How can I fix my chest freezer, Kelvinator?

My chest freezer is not freezing, what should I do first to find the fault?. it is a kelvinator brand, around 18 years old, small compact type.

Is the motor running when you switch on the power? If it is and keeps running for more than a minute or two then you have lost the refridgerant gas. If motor does not even start or only runs for a few seconds then you have a bad compressor motor or thermostat
