bt freelance XD1500- PROBLEMS WITH SET UP?

I have bought this phone from a dealer (it is reconditioned) and cannot get the hand seta to register to the base, they are flashing constantly with the display "BASE 1" but I cannot get any rogress

try a different base number ie 2, 3, 4 mine works on base 2
