When the star pad is pushed nothing happens but everything lights up and water is on and looks ready to go.Could it be the safety switch for when the lid is opened? if so i cant find it

I had the same problem Thought something was dead.
I tried the diagnostic mode:
Hold "Wash Temp Down", then press "Power". Wait for the two short "beeps", then press the "spinup" button
I didn't get the diagnostics but after I had done that, powered off and on again, the machine started OK with the "Pause/start" button
