When you turn the key to the left, lift the bonnet (it will come up a short way), then turn the key to the right then the bonnet should lift up completely. Hope this helps!

I have the same problem with my '01 1.8LX. I'm going
to tackle this job today and try to drill through the
lock mechanism without destroying the grill . I'll .keep
you posted and let you know how I get on.
