Myson Apollo Fanfare?

This is an old but efficient boiler which I have always serviced myself. However during its long life I have had to fit 2 new complete overpriced extractor units, because of bearing failure. It seems almost criminal that new bearings cannot be fitted and the only tempory solution is to spray on WD 40. Problem is this cure only lasts for a short time before having to be repeated. Hence one has to buy a complete unit.
Any ideas or even suggestions as to where to get a new not so expensive one?

Check if you can remove the old bearings. I have done this with a Myson Apollo fan and it works fine thereafter. It only requires basic tools to dismantle the fan, extract the old bearings, find the number on the bearings, search for Simply Bearings.co.uk and locate the right ones. I bought 2 sets for £8 - bargain deal when a replacement fan unit is almost £200.

Hi Reg, you could try contacting a company called "ADLINK" they supply re-conditioned fans at a fraction of the cost. Also worth applying copper grease to the fan motor when you fit it, do'sent dry our like WD40

I know what you mean Reg.I take it that you have the model that comes with the fan assbly attached to a plate with all the pressure switch included.Four screws out and you change the lot.As you say i have lost touch but these will be extremely expensive. If its the other model if you are lucky you can get the 3 motor retaining bolts out and just change the motor, but as you say you still have to pay for a housing that you dont need.Theyve got you over a barrel mate,as sooner or later they will become obsolete and a Completely new boiler will be needed,so i would bite the bullet and keep a spare just in case.
