how can i fix my renault laguna gearbox so that it goes into 1st gear ?

my 1997 1.8 manual laguna sometimes goes into 1st gear fine then sometimes u either have to force it in or go into 2 nd gear then back to first

Mines much the same also have to slap the lever over to 5th. 1st does not seem in line with 2nd like it was it a bit to the left. any ideas anyone its 1997 2lt est.

i've now noticed a groaning noise coming from the gearbox which gets faster, the faster i drive. could it be a bearing
