I have a Hotpoint 1000 spin First Edition?

My washer has been working fine but just recently it has stopped taking the fabric softener from the draw it takes the powder fine.What can be causing this i have taken the draw out and cleaned it but still nothing happens ,anyone any ideas.Thanks
