HOW CANI FIX MY MONTGOMERY WARD LAWN TRACTOR 18.5 BRIGG AND STATON ?

HOW DO I REPLACE A STARTER IN MY MONTGOMERY WARD LAWN TRACTOR WITHA 18.5 BRIGG AND STATON MOTOR
JIM, May 2009
I have done it a few times on my 1996 wards 18.5

first disconnect the battery and then depending on your model, my 96 had to have the hood and fender on the starter side removed. Then disconnect the electrical lines to the starter and then the 2 bolts holding the starter in place.

with a little bit of wiggling the starter will fall out.

Its really not as bad as you would think and it is definetly a do it yourself repair. Remember the top of the engine does not need to come off.

Good luck,

Paul

Its not bad at all, it will pull out without having to take the top of the engine apart.
