My son's Advent notebook will not start it just says a disk read error press ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

Try to format the drive and reinstall the operating system. If that fails as said by the previous poster the hard drive as failed.

Hi Sean.

Now this can be two problems. It could be the hard drive is not in its socket properly or the hard drive has failed.

First I would try reconnecting the hard drive. If this does not fix the problem then its most likely the hard drive has failed.

Also what is the model number of the advent
