i tend to disagree it could just be set to an incorrect video setting, either check the manual or go the playstation website and look up 'video reset'. it is something along the lines of "hold power button .. bleeps once... keep holding it... bleeps twice.. and a video option menu should appear" i know it has changed depending on which firmware is on it, i also know that i had a dodgy HDMI cable that worked one day but not the next so also check the cables.
