The washer turns on and lets us select the wash mode but pressing start doesn't start the cycle, the current position light stops flashing and that's it.

Additionally for the last month the washer hasn't worked on any cycle involving hot water. Have checked the taps and water pipes and they seem to be fine/free of blockages. The hot water is gas heated on demand.
