Either the Lamp is not in contact with the live terminal, or perhaps not in contact with the neutral terminal - or - there is a fault in the neutral connection. The circuit is quite simple...

Live - Switch - Switched Live - Load (lamp) - Neutral return

If it's broken at any place, the lamp will not light.
