I have an old Hahn riding lawnmower and I dont know what charges the battery for the electric start. It has a capacitor or a coil mounted to the frame but its not connected to anything. Could you tell me what charges the battery

if you have battery ingnition yes you do need the batt.to run.yes it should have a charging system on it.i dont know how old it is but some of the older ones do have batt. ignition.if you unhook the batt. and it shuts off you probally have batt. ignition.if it is really old some did not have a chrging system

The battery is only required for starting. There is a charging system under your flywheel that recharges your battery when the unit is running.
