Fuel pipe problems?

I'm trying to recondition my Qualcast strimmer, but cannot get the fuel pipe on - should it be this tight or is there a trick to getting the plastic pipe over the ribbed ends?

Thanks for the help so far.

However i've replaced the fuel pipe and spark plug, but still can't get it to start? There a decent amount of resistance when I pull the cord but it just won't fire - is there anything else obvious I should be looking for?

cheers wirecutter manI'll give it a go

lighter WILL START A FIRE if pipe still contains FUMES much BETTER (safer way) is to hold the last 1/2" end of plastic pipe in BOILING WATER then slip it on the ribbed end.

Cheers John,

Would a lighter do the trick if i don't have a hot air gun?

Just heat the pipe up gently with a hot air gun, and it will slip on, no problem.
