Tecumseh 40. Engine fires but stops immediately?

The mower has not been used for some time. Have added oil, new plug and petrol. Mower ran at first, but now won't start. The engine fires, but stops immediately.

You proably have a fuel supply problem and carb need to be cleaned .....gas turns to laquer if it sits up too long ......
