brake lights, for ford escort 1995 D van?

my brake lights keep blowing the fusses, even though they are the right ones.They only work my switching my side lights on!! any suggestions?

start by checking the bulb holders,they tend to melt causing problems with rear lights!-make sure that they are the correct holders for stop/tail lights
