smoke from my bosch hedge trimmer?

smoke came out of the motor on my bosch hedge trimmer ..is this because I need to renew the brushs..never had this problem before?
any help would be helpful

The smoke is very probably from the motor and it may well be the sign of worn out carbon brushes.

Brushes are relatively cheap
