the blades on my electric qualcast hedge trimmer GHT 600A1 have stopped working although the motor is running.

A gear or other internal part has failed. You can open it up and work your way back through the linkage and drive to see what has failed but you are unlikely to be able to find parts.

Have a rummage online to see what parts, if any, are available. I think you'll be resigning yourself to a new one.
