Im not sure why this happens but it seems as though the dishwasher is being starved of water. I filled it manually with a few litres of water, cleared the bleep by holding down the button on the right hand side for a few seconds and then started the program again. I had to do this a few more times but it seemed to right itself after a few washes. Better get it checked by somebody qualified if it reoccurs though.
