grill will not stay on?

The grill on myFlavel gas cooker ignites but no matter how long I keep the knob in as soon as I let it out the grill goes off

hi john sounds as though the thermocouple which detects the unit is lit and keeps the gas valve open is faulty if this unit is at fault as soon as you release the knob the flame will go out
