can't unlock and open my UPVC french door?

the door was locked last night, this morning I tried to unlock it and it will not open. If I lock the door as usual then try to move the handle whilst unlocking the handle goes so far then stops. It will not move the bolts to open the door and the opposite door will not open without first opening its partner. Can you help?
