My system seems to have developed a fault in that despite all hot water taps being off the hot water demand light comes on which triggers the gas to ignite, the system the creates the most awful banging and rattling noises. Unfortunately due to this problem i have had to turn the system off completely which means that I now have no heat or hot water.

any suggestions?

sounds like the water flow switch is stuck on, the heat has no whwer to go and boiler boiles.
