firstly , the grease tends to dry out on the mech worm gears , 2nd clean the lens properly , IPA preferably. also , there is quite a bit of laser brightness adjustment on this modle - (last resort)

Hello David,m
I have the same problem.
Did you find a solution yet?

I have tried to repair my fathers XC-L7 cd-unit. First it didn't want to read any cd disc. I have taken away the cover and some other parts. I have cleaned the lens. After closing the cover. The xc-l7 did read the disc but after 57 seconds it began to mis parts of the music. After cleaning again it was after 2 minutes that it started to mis some notes of the music. Now i am looking for a good solution because i don't know what to do more.
so it worked a little bit but not enough

I've had this problem twice and each time it has needed a replacement laser sledge at a cost of £100 (€150 +/-) fitted. I've now given up and bought a new stereo so am selling my entire L7 system (MD, CD, tuner , cassette, stand). It's a shame as it's elegant and neat, but I think the design is seriously flawed as such a failure rate in light usage is not really very good. I don't know if you can replace the sledge yourself - I doubt it.
