Why won't my Fujifilm S5000 focus?

My Fujifilm S500 switches on ok but will not focus.
The display screen is totally blank/white.

Peter, I would suspect that you have a bad CCD. A CCD turns your photos into a numeric (digital format) that computers can understand. A internet search will show you that this is a farely frequent problem with the S5000. I have two myself and have not had the problem....YET!
