98 ford ka wont build up revs?

98 ford ka will run in idle but when the throttle is pressed the engine shakes violently and the revs wont build up, it seems to be fine low revs but the higher you go the engine just wont have it, I have changed the spark plugs but still the same problem, any ideas?

Thanks Nigel changed the sparks the ht leads a new air filter and the air flow meter and it seems to be running fine now, done it myself for under a £80. If anyone needs to fit a new air flow meter on a KA it is really really simple
