My shower has started puttung out water through the overflow tube at the bottom of the unit. the shower head is not blocked, but when I take it off the water comes through the hose OK. Does this mean there is a problem with the pump? I am in a hard water area, and wonder if something is furred up, but don't want to break any seals,by undoing the unit yet.

you have activated the prd and need to replace first.
but you must locate why it activated either a kinked or collapsed inner hose or showerhead is blocked or restricting flow or someone held their hand over the head hole while it was running.
