How do I fix the 'door' message on Indesit Evolution 1600?

The fuse in the plug just blew on my washing machine (Indesit Evolution 1600) while it was in it's spin cycle. I've changed the fuse (hadn't been changed in 5 years) & power is now restored, now though when trying to start any cycle, the door will lock (I can hear this happen as well) the timer will count down but after a couple of minutes the status panel will just show 'door' indicating that the door isn't locked ... but it is.
I've tried resetting the programme, leaving it switched on or off over night. Various other little things to try & convince it it's finished it's cycle & the door is closed but to no joy. Has anyone got any ideas?
