torque settings for tapered rear bearing 1998 escort estate?

what is the torque setting for the tapered rear wheel bearing on a 1998 escort estate 1.8si
gaz m, September 2010
ive already replaced them and made the mistake of over tightening them lol
there is no split pin
its 2 inner sleeves chapped into the hub the bearings just sit in then the whole lots tightened onto the spindle
ive tightened them to as tight as they go without over tightening then spun them back a complete revolution again
idealisrically the torque setting would be an advantage so i dont need to keep replacing them every few thousand miles which is about a months driving for ma workhorse
thanks for your reply wickham

260 you reckon p
well seems i will need a new torque bar as well then as mine only goes to 230
cheers

if they are tapered bearings they will have to be adjusted by hand, nip up adjusting nut and back off a flat, too tight and they will overheat and fit new split pin

260 Nm
